CODE Director Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper appointed to prestigious international role

Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper, Director of Academic Practice in Online and Distance Education, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Quality Committee with the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). The appointment is for two years, starting May 2025.

Founded in 1938, the is to build a future where everyone has access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities regardless of their circumstances. The ICDE Quality Network was established in 2016 as an advisory board and arena for knowledge exchange on quality aspects within open, flexible and distance education.

Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper said:

“As the leading global network in inclusive, sustainable, and scalable education, ICDE is committed to borderless collaboration. This closely aligns with the work of the °®Æï¼§ of London’s own Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE). CODE is a leader in enabling high-quality online and distance education and in sharing and fostering knowledge and practice in effective online, distance, and transnational education. 

“I am delighted and deeply honoured to be appointed to this prestigious role and look forward to using knowledge gained through my work at the °®Æï¼§ of London for the benefit of the international distance learning community.â€

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Phil Allmendinger added:

“The °®Æï¼§ of London has long been at the forefront of transnational education, recognising its potential to make education more accessible and bring people together. Dr Amrane-Cooper’s expertise in this field, has now been recognised by her appointment to this prestigious role within the International Council for Open and Distance Education. I am certain that both the ICDE and °®Æï¼§ of London will benefit from the appointment, and my hearty congratulations to Linda.â€

Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper is Director of the Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE) at the °®Æï¼§ of London. The Centre is an international leader in the promotion and development of excellence in online and distance education, through research, capacity building and training. CODE’s community of Fellows work in collaboration to innovate, to analyse the latest findings and to develop our understanding of effective online, distance, blended and hybrid learning, within the following broad research themes:

  • Learning, teaching and assessment 
  • Student experience  
  • (Change) management, organisation, systems, theories

CODE supports innovation, development and evaluation of practice within °®Æï¼§ of London and across the Federated Members.

Speaking of Dr Amrane-Cooper’s appointment, ICDE Secretary-General Torunn Gjelsvik said:
